Government TDs welcome Leader funding for projects

The announcement by Minister for Environment, Alan Kelly that he has sanctioned Mayo North East Leader Partnership to approve funding for four projects in the area, was welcomed by Government TDs this week. The three projects are: €301,499 to Comharchumann Forbartha Ionad Deirbhile Eachleim Teoranta to renovate Naomh Bhreandain Community Hall in Eachleim, Blacksod. €177,350 for the development of a commuity centre in Attymass. €167,635 for the completion of phase two of the Bonniconlon Community Centre, and €150,334 for the Swinford community recreation centre.

Minister Ring urges Mayo businesses to get involved

The Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring, this week urged Mayo tourism businesses to get involved as he officially launched the Irish Tourism Industry Awards 2015, the first national scheme to identify and celebrate those leading lights making a difference in the tourism industry and actively contributing to recent growth in the sector. Rewarding innovation in tourism, significant initiatives at home and overseas and the best examples of improvement to the tourism experience, the Irish Tourism Industry Awards – already dubbed the ‘ITAs’ – seek to identify those players in the tourism sector who have made a difference and are setting an example for the rest of the industry.

Ring announces €257,000 for key Wild Atlantic Way sites in Mayo

The Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring, yesterday announced that funding of approximately €257,000 is being made available to Mayo County Council for remedial works at all the county’s Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Points, totalling 30 sites in all, along the Mayo coast.

Mayo County Council launch Community Diaspora Tourism Initiative fund

Mayo County Council has launched a new community tourism initiative for the Diaspora which seeks to build on the legacy of The Gathering 2013. The Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring, officially launched the initiative, a joint partnership by Fáilte Ireland, IPB Insurance, and the 34 local authorities, to provide an annual fund of €1m over the next three years to support up to 700 local community-based events each year around the country. Mayo County Council will provide €30,000 over the next three years for this purpose.
